DrPerlmanJacksonvillePeriodontist.com Periodontist Jacksonville FL, Dr. Gary Perlman, speaks about periodontal disease. A periodontal disease attacks the gums and can vary from simple gum inflammation to serious diseases that can result in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost. Our mouths are full of bacteria. These bacteria constantly form a sticky, colorless plaque on teeth. Brushing and flossing can help get rid of plaque. Periodontal disease is divided is two stages. Gingivitis is bacteria caused by inflammation of the gums. Periodontitis occurs when gingivitis is not treated. Gums pull away from the teeth and form spaces called “pockets” that become infected. The body’s immune system fights the bacteria as the plaque spreads and grows below the gum line. Natural response to infection starts to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If not treated, the bones, gums and tissue that support the teeth are destroyed. Walk Event Encourages Kidney Health and Organ Donation. On Sunday, September 18, 2011, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Windsor & District Chapter celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Give the Gift of Life Walk at Colasanti’s Tropical Gardens. Approximately 150 dialysis patients, supporters and loved ones participated in this event to celebrate the “gift of life” while promoting kidney health. An outstanding event was delivered where the local Chapter launched a comprehensive education program and faces of kidney disease series while encouraging others to say “yes” to organ donation. Three individuals registered their consent at beadonor.ca, which meant that potentially up to 24 lives were saved. In addition to this, participants of the event collectively raised 000 (net) for the Foundation toward the development of research and patient services that benefit our community. Congratulations! We would like to thank all of our partners including AM800 CKLW, our regional presenting sponsor plus all of the wonderful donors who contributed to the success of this memorable event. Live entertainment performances were well received by all participants through Sound Traxx DJ, Jo-Anne’s Fitness Fun and Mad Science® of Windsor as well as 10th anniversary desserts sponsored by Rookies Sports Bar & Grill, which were prepared by Tina Gobbo.
