The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is the most commonly affected (~50% of cases). However, it may also present itself as tophi, kidney stones, or urate nephropathy. It is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood which crystallize and are deposited in joints, tendons, and surrounding tissues. Diagnosis is confirmed clinically by the visualization of the characteristic crystals in joint fluid. Treatment with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), steroids, or colchicine improves symptoms. Once the acute attack has subsided, levels of uric acid are usually lowered via lifestyle changes, and in those with frequent attacks allopurinol or probenecid provide long-term prevention. Gout has increased in frequency in recent decades affecting approximately 1–2% of the Western population at some point in their lives. The increase is believed to be due to increasing risk factors in the population, such as metabolic syndrome, longer life expectancy and changes in diet. Gout was historically known as ‘the disease of kings’ or ‘rich man’s disease’. Gout can …

I am a high school sophmore. I have had acne for about 3 or 4 years now. During the school year, it was okay. I used proactiv for about 2 years now. When the summer started, I decided that it was my goal to get rid of acne permanently. My proactiv was finished and I couldn’t get another kit to use. I started using Neutrogena scrub and mask. It didn’t work very well so I used Neutrogena Clear Pore cleanser/mask. My acne has gotten worse. I have acne now on my chin and neck whereas before, I rarely got acne on those areas. I am seriously fed up with acne and the products. Every time a comercial comes up about an acne treatment, I wonder if the products actually work. I have a good diet. I pretty much never eat chocolate and junk food. I eat vegetables every day. I drink soda maybe once or twice every month or two. I exercise and drink water regularly. So please please tell me, which acne treatment really works?
I would love all answers. At this point, I’m really desperate. Thank-you.
I have been treated by a dermatologist for over 8 years and have been on about every drug available. I went on accutane in high school which seemed to clear up my acne. About 2 years later I moved to Chile for 18 months and was fine; however, when I moved back to the states I broke out again. I get them on my chest, arms, neck, scalp, ears, and face. I eat healthy, drink lots of water and exercise regularly, but nothing seems to help. Hopefully you can help me.?!
For the last 4-5 months i’ve had terrible lower back pain. It all started one day after a snowboarding trip, where I woke up the day after and my lower back was in a lot of pain. To the point of where i was immobile. I went to the doctor to get it looked at and was prescribed muscle relaxants and steroids. The medication did help the pain go away.
However, since then I’ve periodically had medium lower back pain. I notice it from the instant I get out of bed and it usually lingers through out the day. I usually get relief whenever i sit down, however, whenever i stand straight up the pain immediately comes back.
I’ve tried stretching my core as well as taken time off from exercise (which i routinely did 3 times a week). It’s been about 2 weeks since I last went to the gym.
Also, the back pain isn’t really noticeable whenever i’m active or moving around.
Any help towards this would be appreciated. I’ve tried looking around several discussion areas as well as spoken with my doctor, a chiropractor, and physical therapist and can’t get a clear answer to what may be going on. They all seem to think they can help it using their "treatments" but i’m hesitant to start paying for services when I’m not even sure if it really is a problem.
i have had terrible back pain for 4 years now since i was 17 i have tried everything from tylenol nsaids narcotics anti depressants injections everything but surgery no doctor wants to perform sugery on a 21 year old exercise pt chiropractic and accupuncture to no avail either the only thing that worked were the narcotics how do i ask the doctor they dont want to prescribe them on a regular basis because of my age what should i do?
whenever i run for a slightly further distance i get abdominal pain. at times, when i try to jump rope i get abdominal pains even when i’ve only jumped for about 20 times. this frustrates me very much. can someone tell me what’s wrong with me and how do i solve this problem? thanks in advance
it pains so much that i have to stop doing exercise and the pain stops only after a few minutes. when i resume my exercise the pain comes back again. help me!
